Brother you articulate like no other. I enjoyed this (although it’s sad). All of my tribe feels this way. I’m 53 and retired army. I’ve dealt with the government more than most, but it used to just be the government we dreaded. Now it’s any interaction with anyone outside of my house. Damn near everything I go to do is a pain in the ass because the business is a hot mess. And I fear this is just the beginning.

I’m going to enjoy these most decadent of times for now, fuck this country. We lost our way long ago. Everything about it that I held sacred was a lie. My fighting days are over.

Much thanks for your work.

Your words resonated in my ears and provoked the bitter irony of finding humor in the absurd. I felt your voice in my tummy, the internal harbor of aggravation. In the 1980’s American corporations were striving for customer service excellence. They tried to distinguish themselves by service initiatives. Now look at this shit show. Some days it’s not worth leaving the house. You are right about self-reliance being the propeller of action. Everything we touch is followed by an uphill battle. You captured it well and your deft writing always make me smile.

Wow! After reading this I feel like I need a shower. The sliminess and dysfunction you describe are spot on. Brilliant and sad at the same time.

I think as you alluded to, self-reliance is the only path forward in huckster nation.

I’ve read this piece twice and I’ll read it again but you nailed it GC. We are a nation of clowns.

There are still more than a few good people amongst us but the few I encounter are getting very sick and tired of it all. I don’t blame them.

I can feel it all slipping away. What a shame.

Strength to you and your flock.

Nice welcome home, eh GC. Those 16 years away where some of the worst here in the States--a steady decline in almost every thing. And that decline is accelerating as we speak. For the past decade or so, I have tried to find "mom & pop" contractors for the work I no longer can do or don't know how. ( which isn't much) Never have had an experience with a moving company --even this last move from the Austin area to the Hunker Down was the result of several trips with my own truck and trailer, and friends and family. Of course it wasn't like moving half way across the country. (Still remember fondly those days when I could move every thing I owned in a VW bug and have room for my dog, and the occasional hitchhiker, but stuff does seem to accumulate over the years.)

You are right, GC that this nation was never "great" but it was a place worth living in, and even raising kids until the government got ahold of the school systems. God only knows what my grand kids are being told to believe. What we (the people) have let happen to this country will be a lesson for future generations. That the only important thing in life is controlling those who desire to control you. The pursuit of the American dream blinded us to the evil brewing in the halls of government, and now that dream has become a nightmare for many. Those very awake founders had it right, but their vision was nibbled at from the get go. Patriots did their best to defend that dream until that slimy bastard Lincoln gutted the constitution and ended the republic of free and sovereign states for good. Power started accumulating in the center, the over seas empire started building, and the bankers finally got control , and it has been downhill ever since. GWBush called the constitution "just a scrap of paper" and essentially he was right. It has been a very long time since our government has paid much attention to it, and it gets interpreted in all sorts of strange ways.. The end result of all that is a sound asleep "woke" population just waiting for the WEF to take every thing away from them and having to eat bugs and like it. Will the needed revolution even happen, let alone be televised??

Sorry to be so long winded GC, don't get to talk much with others here on the ranch, but sone times I do have a lot to say.

As an addendum to my post, I would like to add this link. Because corruption in high places is hardly ever punished, it has trickled down to most every endeavor that you have mentioned GC Very few in the flock are not out for only themselves.

The gloves come off, this is it, you win the cash award GC. A truly understandable bottom up look at our shithole of a country, even the seals would have a shimmer of understanding if they read this.

Did you go out to eat at the private equity owned restaurant? You would know when you have ventured into the land of PE, everything twice the price for half the value, it’s America buddy, snap on your wallet and bend over, but hey we’re free and we are the best….

Greed and sex baby, oh and Ozempic to shave a few quick pounds, it’s America, and baby its the best!

Nice example that encapsulates everything: Ozempic. Truly remarkable. Inject yourself with something to make up for no self control, discipline or effort, to lose weight, but get thyroid cancer in the process. Genius m****kers running around this place.

Huckster Nation is SOOO accurate. I believe I read somewhere that 90% of the worlds lawyers are in the US. This correlates precisely with the cultural shift over generations from integrity to hucksterism, now rapidly degenerating into barbarism.

I think a return to Natural Law might be the answer.

Truth can be sad.

Makes me wonder what is preferable: third world third world, or first world third world.

FWIW, with a cheap dehydrator, some recipes, and select cuts of meat, you can make awesome jerky. Cheap.

Edit: I did find a "concierge" medical group in FL. For $100 a month pp, they do all the basic checkups and minor care, and access cheap medical, tests, and referrals to like- minded specialists.

Better yet, stay away from doctors. You do not need one, no matter what you have been told. According to JAMA, medical error is the #3 cause of death in the US. And......they tried to kill you with the Trump kill shot during COVID. As an aside, I have never had health insurance, and although I am eligible, I never signed up for medicare.

Man, reading that issue you went through sounds like a fucked up mess. If anyone did that too me, which they have, they are in for a revenge killing. Or maybe it is from the steroids I am on for my lungs. Got a lung infection from the wildfires from good old Canada. Fucking steroids. Good luck to you GC. Yes, you are right about Mexican workers. Once you hire them they get the job done, they do not fuck around.

It's a mess. The contract states they have 21 days to finish the job. Now down to 11 and nothing has moved. Sorry to hear about your infection. Get well soon Lion.

Thank You GC. I will get better. As far as that company you hired, they can burn in Hellfire. If I were you , well you probably did already do this, get on their ass and do some damage. Not one person on Earth deserves the kind of shit that they hand out.

This article was like an earworm for me but in a good way. We're merely atomized commodities for the exploitation of our "betters." Grift and the concept of baksheesh will just become more and more prevalent as competency circles the drain. Personally I like running "drinkable" water, flushing toilets, and lights that stay on but I'm not expecting it unless I provide it for myself. The work ethic in this country has been destroyed. It will take generations to recover if at all.

Theres no voting our way out of this. Bring on the God-Emperor and do what needs to be done.

Beautifully written, but ,man, that sucks! I’m sorry every single thing has been such a hassle. I’ve lived in the Midwest for the last 22 years and while it’s not perfect, I’ve never had things go this bad. I hope you get settled into a normal life soon!

We took a few wrong turns with phone calls, companies, made some bad choices, but some hard lessons learned for all of us. DIY every time to avoid the hucksters. Hopefully we turn the corner next week and things will be looking up. Just trying to enjoy our new environs and not let it get us down.

One of your best, GC. Nicely done, though probably a bit tough to write. We are also feeling the negative impact of the hollowing out of the work ethic among people who have been in the U.S. their whole lives.

Had a burst pipe in our condo in late December '22. The insurance company is still dragging their feet on final numbers. Our condo association hired a public adjuster to get the most out of the insurance company -- I spoke directly with him last week and he was a limp noodle focused on the details of what the insurance company might say at a later date. Just a pathetic wimp who did not say one thing about fighting for us.

I told our property manager yesterday my lawyer is standing by. Seemed to get his interest. Because of the lengthy delay we just returned to our winter place in FL today. Feels like heaven but with non-heavenly temps. Still, my wife's stress level just dropped 50%.

Contrast the insurance/adjuster people to my contractor who is ready to go and easy to work with -- good sense of humor and honest. He's greek, the electrician is greek, the floor guys are eastern european (didn't ask where they were from). All great workers and great people and likely laughing at the lazy Americans.

Maybe opening the borders isn't such a bad thing after all.
