The other issue is retribution. If you kill a criminal, the criminal's family will seek retribution eye-for-an-eye style. I think it's a Caribbean/Latino thing.
I once thought of living in Belize. It only took me 24 hours to realize it was not the place for me. Same goes for Guatemala...I knew immediately. Every place is different for each person. Spiritual preparation is the most important thing. Btw, I drove to Central America...four times...a lone female. If you give in to fear porn...all is lost
Belize islands are ok, I'm sure that was where McAfee was parking, it sure as hell wasn't BELIZE CITY, that place is 100% black, and the nobody ventures out at night, its like being in NAIROBI ( pronounced Nai-Robbery)
Not lucky nor cocky...protected by the full amor of God. I have stared death in the face so many times, I should have been dead years ago, including having a cocked pistol in my face last June. Anyway, a lot of what you read is fear porn. I have slept in my car in Culiacan Sinaloa when supposedly bullets were flying in the streets, and the bodies stacked up like cord wood. I was in San Fernando, Mexico when supposedly a huge mass grave was found outside of town. I highly question this event. Why did no one in town know about it? I have also rented a jeep in Kenya and driven alone through the countryside. I know what I'm doing. For my money, Africa is much more dangerous than Central America. In one small village, the inhabitants blocked my jeep, so I just drove through them, and they chased me with sticks, throwing stones. I think they wanted to have me for lunch. The white (wo)men's burden is heavy.
Wow, I would love to hear more about your survival stories, as many others would too!
It certainly sounds like you are blessed and know what you are doing! Keep it up for as long as you can! My survival stories don't compare with yours, even though I survived them.
I don't know of anyone who would rent a jeep in Kenya other than real journalists or documentary producers.
Good storys; I too did Africa, and explored most of Mexico, and Central AM, but did so by bus, and in the back of pickups as seen in "Romancing the Stone (1984) ",
The only time I ever took 'private autos' to Mexico, was as a kid we would steal cars in Watts-LA drive down to Tijuana for the night to watch 'donkey shows' and then leave the cars in TJ and hitch hike back, it was easy to drive stolen cars into mexico, they just 'waved you in' but the return they actually talked to you :(

Lots of nice places highlands of Mexico, I think near Guadalajara up in the silver-mountains there is a grino-gulch, I wouldn't want to live near gringo's cuz it just attracts criminals and expensive health-care, but further north in the Canyons where people grow their own food and live off the grid, I sure as fuck could live there;
In Guadalajara, there was this huge ten story 'market' not unlike the istanbul 'grand bizarr', inside down a dark aisle I came upon a guy selling real human shrunken-heads from south-america, they were real allright;
Sometimes at anchor on the boat at Puerto Vallarta, I would get bored and go inland and explore;
Armas are difficult and expensive to get in most/all LA countries, which was reason #2 for moving back here.
For sure gringos will be the prime targets when the SHTF, and they will have no armas for self defense, so they will be easy pickings.
All true.

That's not just a Caribbean/Latino thing. It is how all mafia criminal organizations operate?
What happened to all of the witnesses and whistle blowers against them?
Yeah, and the police and their laws will not help the gringo.
Remember what happened to John McAfee in Belize?
I'm still wondering what really happened to him!

Wow, for a lone female to drive to CA 4 times is Muy Brava! Consider yourself lucky to have survived those trips without problems.
I know other males who did not survive those trips well.
Don't let those survivals make you too cocky though, since you don't want to press your luck too far!
Be on high alert in situational awareness mode where ever you go!
CA and SA are beautiful and nice places to live if you are prepared for it. Otherwise you will be another victim.
