Yes, you nailed it. Didn’t we know deep in our hearts there were fine gradations of good friends before this started? By this I mean there were friends we liked very much and with whom we had much in common, but subconsciously had avoided topics. We actually believed these to be necessary, valuable friends, but were not consciously aware we were doing polite end runs. Then along came the scam. The divide quickly became obvious. Masking. Vaxxing. Civil disobedience. The lines were drawn. Suddenly we knew what we had subconsciously known all along. Few would cross over to logic and reason. Shocking, but not really. It is very sad. Only God can fix this now.

Only 1 'previous to Covid' friend is aware of current events, and we email daily. 1 in 15 people of my former circle. At least there is 1. Add to that 2 substackers that I have actually made friends with albeit electronically. Your essay is spot on and reaffirming to me, this is just the reality of it.
