Keep it up and this might turn into a book or a television series on Netflix. The next Peaky Blinders or Ozarks perhaps, two of my favorites along with The Last Kingdom. That's about the extent of my TV exposure other than some news, a little HGTV, Ancient Aliens and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri. Gotta love some of those food places he goes to!!!!!!!

I usually do not read stuff like this, but this was well done and caused me to think far more than I had expected. Thanks for writing this. Map is interesting, too.

dr k, a very remarkable comment, with which i would have liked to follow. GC's neurons function quite well.

As we read more, and watch less, these installments are enjoyable. Looking forward to the completed book, hoping for a positive ending.

As someone who recently fled the dark blue state of Washington and is now in a free state… I find this plot terribly compelling from both of the characters’ perspectives

Real good work. Keep at it. When #3 is up, we probably ought to get you together with another Good Citizen and start working on hardcopy.

Never forget the power of the written word to move and change people. You've got something here that's on track to be on the shelf with Alas Babylon, The Postman, WarDay, Unintended Consequences, Bracken's books (https://enemiesforeignanddomestic.com/), and (at least the first 3) Terminator movies.

Just remember how little time remains. Hammer down.

Godspeed.

Tragically, I somehow ended up in filthy Louisiana (being born outside of the US) and can attest that, as your call it, the "free state" pushes around and rapes and oppresses with its corrupt criminal machine (atrociously corrupt government, courts, "justice" system, and just about anything and anyone else) in the mind-blowing way. Corruption and oppression are impenetrable.

Then, I escaped to Oregon. It is also corrupt and in my situation the filthy Louisiana criminals have been using the corrupt Oregon actors to assist them in crimes. They work in tandem, and it is foolish to divide them as "red" and "blue."

Apparently, the piece insinuates that so-called "free states" give or will provide in the future more freedom. I think it is a dangerous position or expectation. Just a thought that so-called "red states" to which some attribute the heightened level of personal freedoms could be worse than anything else on the map.

Sorry Louisiana didn't work out for you, or Oregon. Corruption is everywhere, there's no escaping it. If you think it's a dangerous position to insinuate a difference in mentalities... over the last two years there were places that continued living and those that cowered in pathetic fear and submitted to the state. That'll be the difference between free states and all the rest going forward. I'm just fictionalizing them in the year 2049, in a world where constitutional amendments have also brought big changes, not just to the currency.

Oregon is better in terms of personal or constitutional freedoms. Although all that is just a simulation of lawfulness - even today (before any amendments) only the rich and corrupt have "constitutional freedoms."

My point was that Louisiana is OUTRAGEOUSLY and RABIDLY corrupt, that's why it "did not work out" for me. And "would not work" for many others in a similar to mine position.

"Continued living" - is it being able to enter the gym or bar? I don't care, I do not go there. For me, constitutional freedoms mean something else. But I also know that there are "vaccine" mandates in Louisiana (e.g., Louisiana state university the last I checked required vaccine passports or the students were not allowed to register for classes; masks were enforced everywhere, etc.). So, even from your perspective, I do not know how it's free or any different from the so-called "blue" states.

Mask mandates, vaccine passports, lockdowns... Florida, South Dakota stood strong. Gave space to other less courageous governors like Abbott to stand up. As a native of the PNW I don't know what planet you are on suggesting Oregon. Lol. Granted as long as you are not in a major city like Portland or Seattle you are fine. People largely ignored the idiocy but if you had to do business in the cities you couldn't ignore it. Going over the cascades from Seattle to Ellensburg was nearly just like this story during the peak of covid hysteria. The map certainly isn't perfect though. Divisions inside of states would become brutally ugly. No way would Michigan stay intact. "Yuppers" have considered themselves separate from Lansing for decades. I actually RV tripped up there during covid hysteria. It was awesome.

I was not "suggesting" Oregon. I simply described my experience in a so-called red state and blue state, and said that in addition to being more rabid and corrupt, Louisiana had the same madness and mandates. I asked the author how exactly it was giving more freedoms and "continued living" if the mandates were and are the same as in a "blue state." He did not respond.

Also, all that hysteria aside which was easy to ignore, I stated that there are no freedoms in a so-called "red state" Louisiana because it is entirely controlled and run by the filthy criminals, that would include Louisiana "supreme court," Louisiana dep. of "justice," and just about any other similar criminal establishment of that nasty "red" state.

To sum up, I implied that I am not buying that in 2049 in that "red" state people will have more freedoms because they do not have them now.

Expand full comment

Except that you are completely wrong. Florida and South Dakota clearly respected civil liberties during covid hysteria. Other red states followed their lead. No blue state governments respected civil liberties. If you live in a red county in a blue state you had more civil liberties respected. You are ignoring the bigger picture because you clearly had a bad time with the Louisiana government. For some reason you believe this scales to the 330 million other people in the USA

Expand full comment

Yes, criminals are always criminals. Just because they did not get the chance to commit atrocities against "330 million of other people in the USA" does not make them any better.

You ignored my remark that Louisiana has the same shot mandates and was enforcing the same mask mandates just as in Oregon. So, how is it different even from your "general" perspective?

Louisiana has always been corrupt i.e. "The Kingfish," Governor Huey P. Long. The New Orleans mayor is on par with Bowser and Lightfoot. It's very sad because the people they exploit are extremely charming and warm hearted. If you are looking for the city in Confederacy of Dunces you can find it .... with a side of fentanyl.

Secession was tried once and it didn't work because of the technological advantage (blue soldiers were able to fire two shots from cartridges, while grey soldiers fired one from their muzzleloaders) and the nearly unlimited power supply from the same group of people that are taking over the world now. That's when America was captured; 1913 and 2020 only completed the plot.

However, only an independent currency can save the people for the tyranny of those, who are using the people's own money to enslave the population.

The enforcers/informants/profiteers realize that they will be next in line to the slaughterhouse, the monsters might run out of servants and without them, they are nothing.

Expand full comment

It seems more plausible to me that the blue states would be the ones who would be looking to liberate those in the red ones. I just don't see those in red states going around telling people they need to be freed from whatever they're into. I also don't see why all the high fructose corn syrup covered hog fat confections would necessarily end up in red states especially when they're so cheap to produce.

Loving this story! Love Jacob's country boy accent and am already thinking of scenarios where Olivia and Francine are dodging drones, talking their way out of situations as they make their way to a free state. Brilliant.

Has to be a book!

This is a fantasy of the future that will not come true. Yes, America will break apart, as will many countries in the West. The Great Reset resulted in a world war, famine, dramatic population reduction, and medical tyranny, and yet, in the end they failed. Why you might ask? A very good question. The Great Reset failed because around the year 2030, the mini ice age was in full swing, and the magnetic reversal is on deck. The volcanoes erupted worldwide and the earth shook. The Age of Kali was no more, and with the return of the Light the survivors rejoiced.
