somebody's always taking that line from Crowley out of context. It drives me crazy. I don't love Crowley The Beast but I don't like anyone's words/intent being twisted to make a point.

Like "money is the root of all evil" It's ****LOVE OF*** $.

Please, tell me the context. I have no problem being corrected. But although he may have meant it differently, the popular clip does summarize what many use as an excuse for gratifying their selfish desires.

I agree that many use "Do as thou wilt..." as an excuse for selfish behavior but they are twisting Crowley's thoughts.

re тАЬDo what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law" means something like тАЬFigure out your true spiritual purpose and then try your best to achieve it.тАЭ Pay no mind to the judgements of others.

Crowley was called a Satanist by religious zealots but he never actually espoused Satanism, as far as I know. Sure, he had many disgusting habits and was targeted for going against many grains.

Later there was rephrasing of "do what thou wilt..."

to тАЬan it harm none, do what ye willтАЭ follow your path, considerate of others and your own desires.

тАЬThe key of joy is disobedience.тАЭ тАУ Aleister Crowley

Some ppl during Crowley's era would have found that quite disturbing.

And this, тАЬIf one were to take the bible seriously one would go mad. But to take the bible seriously, one must be already mad.тАЭ тАУ Aleister Crowley

So then, of course, he must be a Satanist...
