Weird, bizarre and quite plausible. The human race creating monstrosities is and has always been a reality. This is a huge (pun intended or not) thought provoking great piece!

You're welcome GC. I've been off ritalin for 10 days now. I had four days of feeling like a narcoleptic but that went away. Glad I'm off that crap. All I did was rant when I was on it.

None of my fluffy business, but prescribed or recreational? Had one of those bizarre acquaintances back in the 90s who told his doc he needed it but used it recreationally. He'd crush that stuff up and snort it. One night I decided to try one, which turned into a dozen. 15 hours later (2pm the next day) I had gone through two of his VHS box sets and finally went home to sleep. When I laid in bed my heart was still racing. So I went to mow a girlfriend's mom's lawn in my 1982 Nissan Maxima that had a robotress talk to me if made a human error. "Door is open." "Key is in the ignition."

Prescribed. The doc weened me off slowly. I was on it for ADHD diagnosis for two years, but I was on three 20mg does a day. I got sick of it because every time I did a task that required heavy lifting and outside work I would get heart pounding reactions and felt like I was out of breath. Yes, I tried snorting that shit too, but it worked better when ingested. The only thing about ritalin is it made a good antihistamine. Funny thing is, with me, it made me fall asleep. But I would wake up a couple hours later.

I don't think so. You are posting this on a site that has nothing to do with the topic. You just made a mistake.

🤮that’s my reaction. Sorry. I know a family with 3 of the grown children morbidly obese. To think of them as wild animals is beyond my ability. I do understand it’s a sad state to see so many obese people, young and old. It’s also sad to know that other countries think of us as ‘fat Americans’ and judge us as lazy, rich, and over-indulgent. May we all aim for good health and compassion.

It's beyond the ability of any humane person to view them as wild animals, and that's just one point, of a fictional story set in 2043. 🙄 It is a sad set of stereotypes of Americans, who unfortunately, on the whole, as George Carlin astutely observed the second half of his career, do little to dispel them. To good health and compassion. Hope the tummy feels better soon.

no, you won't. Sorry GC, but this one is outside of funny. I get it, it's jerry springer on steroids, but the death match on Idiocracy is about as funny. Just outside of funny, that is. How they survived the multiple boosters without pericarditis is a Q. I'm thinking 2043 is either the new garden of eden or a nuclear wasteland. I guess it's just me.

It probably cost me some subs from the uncritical readers who take these as my own personal views, but every few months some piece does and this won't be the last. Sitting around worrying about what others will think constipates the creative juices, of which there should be no shortage when fully plugged into the present Soul War as you put it. Your post finally forced me to go paid for only the third time.

I'm sure most subscribers know you better than that - when you are brutal it's to highlight a point - 'brutal satire', that's what it is.

Glad to give you the kick in the pants ;)

I usually lose a few subs when I post, then pick up more. My working assumption is that people subscribe without reading, or they read one piece and think that's all I write about. I don't let it get to me - I'm writing what I like to write, for people who like what I write. And that won't be everyone by a long shot.

Hey GC and JC, thanks for another kick in the pants to care even less what others think. Damn hard habit to break, but this Soul War demands it.

GC, your fiction SHINES! You are clearly plugged all the way in... :-)

Just a warning to all of you who read the Good Citizen and other Substacks, I have been starting to get emails that appear to be from various Substack sites that I follow saying they are responding to my comments.

Since they all have the same number and similar message,

I'm sure this is some new scam, but since I don't write on Substack, I;m not sure who to report this to.

Thank you, The Watchman. I have reported this and also there is a person that goes by the name "Richard Hoard". He is off topic and tries to explain that he has made money with some sort of "system". This person has provided a link which I did not click on. He has been reported. I don't think GC would appreciate these shenanigans.

Surely, GC, this is an indictment of the food industry, born of the mega beasts pharmacology, chemistry, and corporate agriculture. We are physically what we eat, and what the fake food industry provides is nothing short of socially acceptable drugs. Highly addictive and available at your favorite food emporium. One must eat to live but every bite taken with no concern other than pleasure leads to a miserable existence and shortened life rather than health and vigor.

The zeal of promoting the body positivity movement featuring massively obese monstrosities lauded and applauded and decreed stunning and beautiful is another way in which the nihilism of the progressive left elevates ugliness and filth to replace beauty and purity. Degradation at every level is the desired outcome.

My reaction to massive obesity is disgust and revulsion mixed with pity and contempt for all parties concerned, except obese children - they are victims of abuse.

You are the fourth read of the six, I've got two more to go. How you come up with some of these things still amazes me somewhat, but yet it doesn't surprise me.

This one is somewhat depressive compared to the others that I have read, but I still have Yuri's and Harrison's yet to read, so it may not be the most depressive one.

I find myself rooting for Marshall to escape and gain his freedom and perhaps come to his senses and get his weight down, otherwise I feel like the controllers have won and that shouldn't be how this ends.

Had been a while since I was in the states and so wasn't aware of those shows until last year. Bonding with the old man holding the clicker he landed on one of those 'my ginormous life' series. Conflicting emotions followed. Heartbreaking and fascinating and repulsing all at once.
