It is extremely sad that, what we believe were once great educational institutions perhaps never were. It all depends on how far back you want to dig and try to discover how long ago our country sold its soul.

Back in 2020 I started a small project, of buying books, any books but especially books that teach important lessons, or highlight historic stories. I always buy physical books, and I always buy the oldest revision I can find.
And I most definitely don't buy them from Bezos' website.
My reason, is to keep and preserve physical copies of books that are beyond the reach of their icky little editorial hands.
People who have e-readers or kindles or whatever, forget about them. They're books are only as good as the last update they've received from globopsycho's historical revisionists.

I am doing the same -- for the last 20 years, I've been purchasing older books, original editions or early editions, after reading an article (I believe it was in Unz Review) by a PhD candidate who was alerting people to how many important, revelatory books in his particular field have had their copyright purchased by some obscure publishing company and then new editions released that had major edits or omissions in them, without such edits or omissions being noted. As George Orwell wrote, "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past."
Probably why Google wanted to do the world a favor by putting all the "great books" on the internet so the great unwashed public could read them --in their new versions, of course
